COMPETITION FORMAT
AGE GROUPS
Key Stage 1 – Years 1 & 2
Key Stage 2 - Years 3 & 4
Key Stage 2 - Years 5 & 6
There will be four competition opportunities:
Key Stage 1 Team competition - Key Step Level 1 disciplines
Key Stage 2 Team competition - Key Step Level 2 disciplines
Key Stage 2 Individual competition - Key Step Level 3 disciplines
Key Stage 1 and 2 Individual Special Needs competition – Key Step Level 1 disciplines
TEAM COMPETITION
There is one competition category for Key Stage 1 participants
There are two categories of team for Key Stage 2 participants:
a) Those who participate in curricular gymnastics only.
b) Those who participate in extracurricular gymnastics at school, satellite club, leisure centre, or British Gymnastics club recreational class.
4 per team from the stated year groups
Teams should be mixed, with at least 1 boy
All children in the team must attempt all 3 activities
The three top scores for each team will count towards the team total.
The top team in each age and group category from the Partnership Key Step events will qualify for the Key Step Gymnastics final on Friday 1st June.
INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION
There will be two categories of Individual Competition for the ‘club gymnast’:
a) Those who participate in:
after school clubs working to Level 3 criteria Floor and Vault groups / squads Floor &Vault events at inter club, county or regional level
b) Those who participate in discipline specific development or competitive groups/squads within a gymnastics or trampoline club working at inter club or county first level events only.
The top 3 in each group and age category from the Partnership Key Step individual events will qualify for the Key Step Gymnastics final on Friday 1st June.
INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION - SPECIAL NEEDS
There will be an inclusion competition within the Key Step Gymnastics Final on Friday 1st June, aimed at children who require additional support. This competition will be open to boys and girls Key Stage 1 and 2 and will use the Key Step Stage 1 criteria, adaptations for which will be made available in due course for those who want them
Sports Rules
The competition will be run in accordance with the English Gymnastics Key Step Programme. Routines will be judged in accordance with the rules set out in the Key Step resource pack.
Dress: - ‘T’-Shirt and Shorts or leotards; Bare feet. Long hair tied back.No Jewellery permitted.
Key Step Resource Pack
The Key Step resource pack contains work cards (showing each skill and coaching points on how to improve each skill), wall charts, and a DVD which demonstrates the routine and individual skills at each level, providing information and coaching points. The resource may be obtained via British Gymnastics.
